Controlled wood consultation for both Wespine Timbers and Marubeni Corporation.

Background

Marubeni Corporation are current holders of a controlled wood certificate under FSC-STD-40-005 Standard for Company Evaluation of FSC Controlled Wood for Pinus radiate plantation timbers supplied by Wespine Timbers sourced from private suppliers and from the Western Australia Forestry Products Commission (FPC). This certificate is still current but now Wespine Timbers are seeking their own certificate for largely the same supply to replace the Marubeni certificate.

As a precaution Marubeni will keep their certificate current until Wespine Timbers complete their own certification. Therefore this consultation is for both Wespine Timbers and Marubeni. Both documents are presented here but the control of HCV for both are identical.

Both Wespine and Marubeni have concluded that suppliers operate a strong system of control for HCV and have conducted verification audits to confirm this.

Your comments on the control of HCV are now invited.

Timberlands Pacific Update

Timberlands Pacific has recently completed a stakeholder engagement process to gain community and government feedback on its Management Plan documents and processes. The best way to find out about community attitudes and concerns is to ask; so we would like to thank all our stakeholders who took the time to comment on these documents. The feedback was very thoughtful and specific and has helped us refine our management policies particularly with regards to Special Values and Cultural Heritage management.

Updates were made to most documents. These include the Forest Management Plan, and Management Plans that describe how we manage Special Values (including rare and threatened species, high conservation values, water ways, soils etc) and Cultural Heritage Values (both Indigenous and European). Please note that due to extensive comments on the Taswood Cultural Heritage Management Plan its still under review. TPPL anticipate that this should be completed by the end of 2013. We will update the website when this process is finalised.

If you are interested please take a look at the Plans. These documents are quiet large, so rather than fill up your inbox, TPPL has made them all available on our website, www.tppl.com.au/environment_and_safety

You will hopefully have noticed that our website has also recently been upgraded. It now contains dedicated pages for:
Environment and Safety - contains our Management Plans, Forest Certification information and the TPPL Hexazinone derogation application; and
Community - contains information regarding public forest use, collecting Christmas Trees, hunting and firewood, and for our Tasmanian neighbours information about the harvesting at Stoodley Forest near Sheffield.

If you would like additional information or have any questions please contact us either via enquiries at tppl.com point au or phone the relevant office.
