Queensland Commodity Exports Pty Ltd - Stakeholder consultation extended until 22/03/2017 (supporting documentation made available 11/01/2017)
Seeking Comment from interested stakeholders
Queensland Commodity Exports (QCE) Pty Ltd is a wood processing and export facility located in Brisbane.
QCE is certified to the following FSC standards:
- FSC Standard for Chain of Custody Certification (FSC-STD-40-004 V2-1 EN); and
- FSC Standard for Company Evaluation of FSC Controlled Wood (FSC-STD-40-005 V2-1 EN); and
- is in the process of upgrading to the new version of the FSC controlled wood standard, ‘Requirements for Sourcing FSC® Controlled Wood’ (FSC-STD-40-005 V3-0 EN).
QCE is commencing stakeholder consultations regarding the management of high conservation values (HCV) associated with QCE’s plantation wood sources. QCE purchase plantation wood from commercial plantation managers (eg. HQPlantations, FCNSW), small private forest owners and several local sawmills in Southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales.
We invite stakeholders that are involved with or have an interest in forest activities associated with our wood supply to offer comment or feedback in relation to:
- identifying High Conservation Values (HCVs) and threats to them, including biodiversity, forest productive capacity, forest ecosystem health, soil and water, cultural values
- controlled wood verification processes,
- control measures applied to protect HCVs

Notification of FSC Controlled Wood Evaluation Audit of Queensland Commodity Exports Pty Ltd
Scientific Certification Systems Inc. t/a SCS Global Services (SCS) is conducting a Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) controlled wood (CW) evaluation audit of Queensland Commodity Exports (QCE) Pty Ltd (SCS-COC-005169) for wood harvested from third party hardwood plantations in South East Queensland and Northern NSW. The audit will be conducted between the 13th and 16th of March 2017 at the QCE office and Port of Brisbane Chip handling facility, two plantation harvest locations and saw mills in the supply chain to QCE.
As part of the FSC certification evaluation, SCS is currently seeking stakeholder input regarding the relevance, effectiveness or adequacy of the QCE Due Diligence System (DDS) to avoid material from unacceptable sources.
Call for Public Participation
SCS is seeking comments on the controlled wood source of QCE or other topics relevant to the FSC Controlled Wood Standard 40-005v3.0 against which they are being assessed. Comments can be submitted via email, standard mail, or facsimile to our Lead auditor or SCS representative whose details are listed in the document below.

FSC controlled wood stakeholder consultation process for Carter Holt Harvey in South Australia and Victoria
23rd February 2017: Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts Australia (Central and Northern Regions) Pty Ltd have certification to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard for Controlled Wood (FSC-STD-40-005) for the export woodchip market. This involves ensuring wood is sourced from forests where High Conservation Values (HCV) are not threatened. Enclosed is a document that summarises how Carter Holt Harvey have gone about this.

Visy Pulp and Paper Pty Ltd - Controlled Wood Consultation Process
27th February 2017: Visy Pulp and Paper Pty Ltd (Tumut) is a paper manufacturing facility located in NSW. Visy procures fibre from softwood plantations and sawmills within NSW, ACT and Northern Victoria.
Visy is currently certified to FSC-STD-40-005 (v2-1), and FSC-STD-40-004 and will be assessed for FSC's latest standard Requirements for Sourcing FSC Controlled Wood FSC-STD-40-005 (v3-0).
As a requirement of the FSC Standard, Requirements for Sourcing FSC Controlled Wood, Visy seeks comment from interested and affected stakeholders who may have an interest in Visy's softwood procurement activities, the activities of its suppliers, or be directly affected by Visy's softwood procurement activities. Feedback is sought primarily on HCVs within the sourcing area, or in relation to Visy's prescribed control measures and risk designation.
Visy requests that all stakeholders read the Visy Controlled Wood Risk Assessment and Mitigation Plan 2017 and Visy Pulp and Paper DDS Process Summary. These documents can be downloaded on the Visy website.

Notification of FSC® Controlled Wood Evaluation Audit of Carter Holt Harvey Wood Products (Central & Northern Region) Pty Ltd
1st March 2017: Scientific Certification Systems Inc. t/a SCS Global Services (SCS) is conducting a Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) controlled wood (CW) evaluation audit of Carter Holt Harvey Wood Products (Central & Northern Region) Pty Ltd (CHH) (SCS-COC-004912) for wood harvested from third party softwood plantations in Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia and Green Triangle Region of the South East of South Australia and South West Victoria. The audit will be conducted week commencing the 10th of April 2017 at the company office and saw mill in Mount Gambier, ship loading facility in Portland Victoria, three plantation harvest locations located in the Mounty Lofty Ranges and Mount Gambier in South Australia and South West Victoria and four saw mills in the supply chain to CHH.
As part of the FSC certification evaluation, SCS is currently seeking stakeholder input regarding the relevance, effectiveness or adequacy of the CHH Due Diligence System (DDS) to avoid material from unacceptable sources.
Stakeholder Consultation - Softwood Plantation Exporters (SPE)
18th March 2017: Softwood Plantation Exporters (SPE) is a dynamic joint venture between sawmilling company AKD Softwoods (AKD) and plantation grower HVP Plantations (HVP). Having been in operation since 1996, SPE operates from a static mill located at the Port of Geelong. Through the Port, SPE consistently and efficiently delivers high quality plantation woodchips to export customers throughout the year. SPE is currently certified under chain of custody and controlled wood standards and is now transitioning to version 3 of the controlled wood standard. The survey relates to planned supplies of plantation softwood material from Victoria and South Australia for the period of April 2017-April 2018.
SPE would appreciate relevant stakeholders to take time to complete this survey. Please complete the survey by 24th April 2017. Read the full details in the letter below.
